Some recordings happen in one sitting. Many do not. A lecture continues next week, an interview pauses for a break, and an idea grows across several walks. Most voice memo apps make each restart a separate file, leaving you to remember which clip came next.

That simple frustration is why we built Resumable Recorder, now available for iPhone on the App Store. You can stop a recording, close the app, and return hours or days later to resume the same memo. Every session stays together for playback, transcription, organization, and sharing.

The Problem: Pause Is Not the Same as Stop and Resume

Pause works only while a recording session remains active. Once you stop, conventional recorders treat the next session as a new memo.

That is fine for quick reminders, but awkward for research, classes, meetings, interviews, creative notes, and any project that unfolds over time.

Separate clips create unnecessary work. You end up naming a series of files, keeping track of their order, searching across multiple transcripts, or stitching the audio together before sharing it. The recorder captured the sound, but lost the continuity of the idea.

The Solution: One Memo, as Many Sessions as It Needs

Resumable treats a memo as the container for the whole story—not just one recording session.

Open any stopped memo, tap Resume, and the new segment becomes part of that memo. When you share the audio, Resumable joins the segments into one file.

We paired that core workflow with the tools people need after they press Record:

  • Crash-safe recording protects audio in progress and attempts recovery after an interruption.
  • Lock Screen controls let you pause, resume, stop, or add a bookmark from a Live Activity.
  • On-device transcription creates searchable text, with timed words that jump back to the matching point in the audio.
  • Bookmarks and notes mark important moments while recording or listening.
  • Folders and search keep a growing library manageable.
  • Waveforms and playback controls make it easier to scan, skip, and listen at a comfortable speed.
  • Flexible sharing lets you export a memo as one audio file, copy its transcript, or share the transcript as a text file.

Privacy Is Part of the Product

A voice recorder can hold some of the most personal information on a phone. We did not want privacy to depend on finding the right setting or trusting another online account.

Resumable was designed to work without sending your recordings to us:

  • No account or login
  • No analytics or tracking
  • No advertising SDKs
  • No ads
  • No Microcomp server receiving your recordings, transcripts, bookmarks, or folders
  • Recordings and app data remain in Resumable’s local storage on your iPhone

Transcription uses Apple’s on-device speech-recognition frameworks. Your recordings and transcript text are not sent to Microcomp. On supported versions of iOS, Apple may first download the language model required for local transcription.

Your own iPhone backup settings still apply. Resumable data may be included in an iCloud Backup or computer backup that you control, but Microcomp cannot see or restore that content.

You can read the complete details in the Resumable Privacy Policy.

Designed for Real Recording Conditions

Recording rarely happens in a perfectly controlled environment. Phones lock, calls and system events interrupt, and an important moment can arrive while the app is in the background.

Resumable uses background audio for an active recording and a Lock Screen Live Activity so essential controls remain close at hand.

We also built recovery into the recording flow. If the app or iPhone is interrupted, Resumable checks for unfinished work the next time it opens and preserves the audio it can recover.

No recorder can promise recovery from every hardware, storage, or operating-system failure—but protecting work in progress was a requirement from the beginning.
